Jeremy took his fitness to the next level with P90X2. He is a prime example of how consistency with P90X2 and the Nutrition plan can lead to amazing results. Not only has he gotten absolutely ripped with P90X2 but he is now paying it forward, taking what he has learned and helping others do the same as a coach.

This is what I love about P90X2. It gives you the ability to step outside your comfort zone and completely transform you. Jeremy is not just ripped…he is also stronger, more agile, more powerful and has better balance then he did before completing P90X2. Check out Jeremy’s P90X2 Results Video!

Here is what Jeremy has to say about this P90X2 Results

After completing P90X, my workouts began to plateau. I wanted to further my fitness progression and step up my diet, so I began P90X2. I absolutely loved my X2 journey. I gained confidence in myself to diet better as well as push myself to limits I have never been to. Today(currently doing a P90X/X2 hybrid)I feel better than ever. I’m more confident than I’ve ever been and my energy levels are exceptional on a daily basis. I truly believe in the Beachbody philosophy of fitness and can not wait to see where it takes me.

Want to find out how Jeremy got ripped with P90X2? You can contact him through his Facebook HERE or through his Coach site HERE

The New Vanilla Shakeology has finally arrived. It has been a long time coming as well. Back at the 2010 coach summit, Carl Daikeler (the CEO of Beachbody), announced that Vanilla Shakeology may never happen. This was due the the fact that it is extremely difficult to get an Organic Vanilla flavor without cutting the corner of product quality that Shakeology stands for. But, at this years coach summit, Beachbody announced that they finally found a way to make Vanilla a reality. The journey took them all the way to Madagascar but they cracked the code. We now have an awesome Vanilla Shakeology.

What Is Shakeology?

For those of you who don’t know what Shakeology is in the first place, let me explain. Shakeology is a meal replacement, whole food, high protein shake that is a daily dose of dense nutrition. It is something that I have been using everyday for the last 3 years. But believe it or not, I wasn’t always sold on it due to the price. At $120 per bag, ( $4 per serving), I didn’t think think I could fit it into my budget . But MY Coach showed me how to use it…as a meal replacement. I realized that if I replaced my pre-workout protein bar ($3) and my multivitamin ($1) that it would equal my cost! I also realized that the VALUE of nutrition that I would receive from Shakeology would be much greater than a protein bar. I also decided that I would use it for Lunch occationally which ended up saving me $6 each time I did it! I still wasn’t convinced however. So I decided to keep my schedule completely the same except for adding in Shakeology for 30 days. I was amazed by my results. I had gone from 8% body fat to 6% and went from 160lbs to 162lbs! Muscle gain and fat loss! I was hooked.

Shakeology is by far the healthiest meal I have all day. I believe in it so much that I have everyone that I care about the most (my wife, mom, dad, friends, etc) using it. I also now recommend it for everyone going through any Beachbody programs like P90X, Insanity, TurboFire, Body Beast, T25, and for those I Coach (if I’m not your Coach yet, click here, it’s free to sign up).

Vanilla Shakeology Review

Back to Vanilla Shakeology. I was lucky enough to be able to try it as soon as it was announced at the 2013 Coach summit this year. I have already tried it over 5 times and can tell you that it is already one of my favorite flavors. I would put it either tied or right behind Chocolate Shakeology.

Taste: The taste of Vanilla Shakeology is smooth and settle. It has a very nice, not too sweet, Vanilla flavor with a hint of Cinnamon. This combo blends extremely well with Milk, Almond Milk and rice milk. I also like the fact that I can use a vanilla protein powder with it and it makes it taste great as well.

Overall I would say that Vanilla is definitely a flavor that I will use often. For me, it is definitely worth trying.

Vanilla Shakeology Recipe

There are a ton of recipes to try but right now, this is my favorite.

12 oz of Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk

1 Scoop / Packet of Vanilla Shakeology

1 Scoop Vanilla Protein powder

1/2 Banana

1 cup of ice

Vanilla Shakeology Samples

Want to try Vanilla Shakeology? There are two ways to do so. First, you can take up Beachbody on their “Bottom of the Bag” guarentee…this means that you can try the whole bag of Vanilla Shakeology risk free. If you try the whole thing and are not satisfied then you can just call up Beachbody Customer Service and they will refund you your Money! It’s a great way to try it for 30 days to see the full effects.

I also have samples of Vanilla Shakeology that I will be sending out every week or so. In order to receive a free Vanilla Shakeology Sample you have to visite the Shakeology Sample Page Here. There are some easy requirements to receive it.

Sagi Kalev, creator of BODY BEAST, has been a bodybuilder since the age of 16. He credits a four-year tour of duty in the Israeli army with teaching him the discipline, focus, determination, and respect he brings to his bodybuilding training.

Drawing on his education (a degree in physical education from the University of Central Florida with a minor in nutrition), Sagi has written a nutrition plan specifically for the BODY BEAST workout. And his many years of experience in training bodybuilding competitors serve as the foundation for the program itself.

After graduating from college, Sagi pursued a fitness modeling and acting career. He has competed in numerous bodybuilding competitions and has won two “Mr. Israel” titles along with a number of others. He’s also appeared on the cover of Men’s Workout, Iron Man, and Muscle & Fitness magazines, and several other publications.

After many years of modeling and entering shows, in 2003 Sagi decided to change his focus to personal training and working with people of all age levels, to help them get healthy and in excellent physical condition.

Sagi Kalev maintains the same philosophy he’s carried through his fitness career: To not just be the biggest, but to be the best at what he does.

With BODY BEAST, it’s about technique and building a strong foundation—not just lifting the heaviest weights you can. It’s about changing how you feel about yourself by improving your self image. Let Sagi Kalev show you the way.

I think Chad has answered the question whether or not you can gain mass with P90X. Wow! Chad decided to make a change in his life and went for it. His P90X results prove how you can completely change your body type with a program like this. Not only that but he also improved in sports! Chad has been a stable member or the Get Ripped At Home Crew for some time now and his dedication to both his fitness and nutrition definitely shows through. It doesn’t matter if you are young, old, man or women…you can get in the best shape of your life with P90X and P90X2. Get the results you deserve!

Here is Chad’s Story in his own words…

Entering high school as an underweight, unfocused, out-of-shape freshman, I knew that in order to play lacrosse competitively and succeed academically in school, I had no choice but to make profound changes in my diet and exercise regimen. I remember when my own poor diet affected my daily life, making me feel tired, weak, lazy, and irritable, especially before lacrosse practice; that chips and pizza might be the culprits never crossed my mind. Before, my daily diet included a meager breakfast, pizza for lunch, three bags of chips for a snack, and finally, a well-balanced dinner too late in the day to matter. After learning how proper nutrition could change my life, I changed my diet to include a hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon, and toast, I stopped eating the cafeteria junk food and started making my own lunches, and I put a stop to my destructive snacking habits. After I changed my diet, I wasn’t drained of all my energy when school ended; and, I also saw a major improvement in my lacrosse game.

Even though I had improved my diet, I still needed to get in shape in order to stay healthy and ultimately make the lacrosse team. I knew in order to play lacrosse effectively I would have to gain muscle, so I started working out at the gym and lifting weights. At first I did gain some muscle and increase my weight, but my gains stopped after a while and I didn’t know why. I researched and found that my body had entered the “plateau effect,” achieving results early on but slowing progress after about three weeks. After discussing the problem with my dad, he explained how P90X stops the plateau effect and helps achieve results more quickly. Convinced, I started to see results as the workout program put my body through varying workouts every three weeks so that my muscles kept growing throughout the ninety day challenge. By the end of the ninety day program, I gained considerable muscle mass, but more importantly; I gained confidence from a well-tuned, high-performing body fueled by healthful eating and regular workouts.

You have seen the infomercial and the stories online but you wonder, how did these people get the results that they did? As a Beachbody and P90X coach I am here to help. I have comprised 5 simple rules for you to get the most out of P90X so you can get in the best shape of your life. Remember, results can vary but if you follow these below you will get most out of this incredible program.

P90X Rules of Success:

1. Nutrition: I listed nutrition number one because I believe that it is the most important. In my opinion getting extreme results comes from 80% nutrition and 20% intense workouts. P90X supplies both. The nutrition guide that comes with the program is an incredible blueprint for getting results. It provides the amount of calories you need, A 3 phase nutrition plan, the foods you should eat, when you should eat them, recipes for meals, and the ratios of protein/carbohydrates/fats you should eat based on what your goals happen to be. Eating the right amount of calories, with the right proteins/fats/carbs/veggies/fruits/snacks at the right times is a key factor in getting the results your after. All you have to do is read and follow the guide. But you still have questions? That’s where I come in. As an Independent Beachbody coach I am here to help you, all you have to do is sign up to receive help CLICK HERE to sign up for free.

2. Having the Proper Equipement: P90X doesn’t need a lot of equipement. All you need is a Pull-up Bar , Weights and/or Resistance Bands. The most important thing is the have the right amount of Weight/Resistance! Far to often I get emails from my team members that are using 10 lb or 20lb dumbbells for the whole program. This isn’t going to be enough to get the best results. Different muscle groups require different amounts of resistance in order to get stronger. Your back is stronger than your biceps for example. P90X will get make you stronger. You will need to progress the amount of resistance you use as your strength increases in order to get the best results.

What do I use? I use both Adjustable dumbbells and resistance bands. Adjustable dumbbells are a great way to save money and space. Some of the most popular are Bowflex Select Tech and Power Blocks. If you can’t afford the free weights then Resistance bands are for you! Make sure you get at least 2 tensions. The Super and Extreme kits can be found in the “Gear” section.

3. Proper Supplements: You have gotten your nutrition down and now you need the right supplements. Fortunately P90X and Beachbody provide all the supplements that you need to get the best results. Whey Protein, P90X recovery drink (post workout), Shakeology, P90X Multivitamin, P90X protein bars, Omega 3s are all supplements to consider. They are all made specifically for P90X by nutritionist such as Mark Sisson and Steve Edwards. Optional supplements would be Creatine or a pre-workout supplement like Xpand Xtreme Pump. If you are wondering more about these see the supplement section or read “My Current Supplements“. I will be updating my supplements page very soon.

4. Consistency/Dedication: When you start P90X you are committing to a 90 day program. You must follow the schedule and be consistent with both the workouts and your nutrition to get the greatest results. A great way to do this is to set goals. Set 30, 60, and 90 day goals. Whether it be being able to do 10 pull ups, losing 30lbs, or gaining 10, setting goals will help you stay on the path to success. A great way to hold yourself accountable is to use the P90X workout sheets . As for nutrition A tool that I use is called FitDay, a food logging website which allows you to keep track of the amount of calories, as well as the % of protein/carbs/fat you take in daily. Will it be tough at first? Yes. Will there be days you don’t want to workout? Yes. But each day you do the program you take one step closer to your ultimate health and fitness goal. Remember I am here to help you through this. Make sure you reach out to me for motivation and help.

Optional equipment would also be, Heart Rate Monitor, Push Up Bars, Exercise Mat, and Yoga Block. Each can help you get even more from the program.

5. Having a P90X Coach: The P90X community is one of the greatest health and fitness communities around. When I first started P90X I found a coach that got the results I was after and signed up with him. He helped me Tremendously. Any question I had he was there to help. After I saw great results using the program I wanted to help others as well, so I signed up to be a P90X coach. As an Independent Beachbody Coach I am here to motivate, support, a help you reach your health and fitness goals. I have learned more from others than I have on my own.

It seems to me that we constantly look for the best approaches to problems. That includes our health/fitness. If you have tried losing weight at some point in your life you have probably heard that you should do Cardio from one person and Weight training from another. Each have their benefits but is there one that is better than the other? Cardio or Weight Training?

As a P90Xer, I have learned the benefit of both weight training and cardio. I wouldn’t consider every dropping one completely. But I do believe that in order to become a more fit individual, you definitely need to include some sore of weight training into your exercise routine. There are many known benefits of weight training and I believe that it has gotten a bad stigma because of the bodybuilding world. Women jumped on the cardio junkie bandwagon of the 1980s because they were afraid that if they lifted weights that they would get bulky and too muscular. That isn’t the case. There is a time and a place for weight training in your fitness schedule as well as your cardio sessions.

Which Burns More Calories?

I can’t accross and interesting study that compared to the two. Here is what it said…

A strength training session in which you burn, say, 300 calories burns more calories than a cardio session where you burn 300 calories on the treadmill. Impossible? No it’s not. At least, if you take into account the raised calorie burning after training.

Yes, we’re talking about elevated post-exercise oxygen consumption, or EPOC: the phenomenon whereby your body burns more oxygen, and therefore also more calories, after a training session. Sports scientists only started studying this effect in the nineties, but the results of their research indicate that, for people who want to control their weight, strength training is a good alternative to endurance and cardio training.

This is also known as the After Burn effect. A idea where your body continues to burn calories much further beyond your workout. As a matter of fact, this effect has been shown to be seen in HIIT versions of cardio as well. TurboFire is even based on this effect. This makes logical sense though. After you break down the muscle your body needs to repair. This causes many things to happen with your body in order to do that, thus causing your body to take calories and use them to repair muscle.

How Does This Work?

In 2005 researchers at Shippensburg University in the US published the results of a human study in the European Journal of Applied Physiology. For this they had got eight women, average age 31, to undergo two training sessions. On one occasion the women did weight training [CT]. They did three sets of leg-presses, knee-extensions, leg-curls, biceps-curls, triceps-extensions and bench presses with 65 percent of the weight at which they could just manage one rep. Between each set the women rested for 30 seconds, and after each exercise for two minutes.

On the other occasion the women ran on a treadmill. The researchers increased the intensity slightly every three minutes until the women were running at 85 percent of their maximal heart rate [TM]. The women stopped running when they had burned as many calories as they had done during the strength training session.

During the first hour after each training session the researchers measured how much oxygen [and therefore calories] the women burned. In the first hour after both training sessions the women’s oxygen expenditure was higher than before the training session. In the first half hour, oxygen expenditure was significantly higher after the CT training than after the TM training.

The respiratory exchange ration [RER], this is the ratio between inhaled and exhaled oxygen, is what is responsible. The lower the RER, the more calories you burn from fat and the fewer from carbs. So the women derived most of the energy for their EPOC after the strength training session from fat.

The researchers suspect that strength training uses relatively large amounts of energy that does not come directly from combustion processes, and which are therefore not visible if you just measure oxygen use during a training session. Restoration of the unnoticed energy reserves only shows up, in terms of oxygen expenditure, after the training session.

Pretty interesting findings right? This shows that strength training does have an added benefit, and why most extremely fit people train with weights. Of course it depends on what your goals are and what look you are going for. I do believe that everyone, even endurance runners, could benefit from some sort of weight training.

A program like P90X takes this concept and adds muscle confusion to it so you can continue to make your muscle guess, so you can continue to get stronger and see greater results. Weight training is an essential part of this. The pace of P90X also makes this workout burn up to 600-800 calories. It’s a fast paced workout that will give you all the benefits of weight training with the heart rats of cardio. This is why it has worked for countless numbers of people, including me!

Should I Add Weight Training?

In my humble opinion, yes you should. We all know that cardio burns calories and is great for shedding body fat. But weight training does as well and that’s why you should definitely have BOTH in your routine! There is a reason why P90X2 doesn’t have a true cardio workout. P90X2 is the cutting edge of fitness and is going to blow people away. They have taken this concept and created an amazing program. But even Tony Horton does cardio as well. On the flip side, Insanity’s Shaun T (Mr. Crazy Cardio himself) saw the benefits of weight training by adding in a Strength workout into Asylum. TurboFire has a resistance workout for this reason too! You have to include a resistance workout into your fitness program to see the greatest results for your efforts. So, don’t just choose sides. Have both Weight training and Cardio in your fitness schedule. You will see great results from the added benefits of both!

Lots of you know that I have been working out with Tony Horton and the beach crew for the last couple years now. The beach workout is a workout we do down at the beach where there are gymnastic style equipment that we can use to help test our strength and endurance. I like to think of it as kinda a “game day” of sorts. It’s a workout that I can go and really challenge myself to see how functional my P90X and P90X2 strength really is.

The first time I went down there I was invited by a fellow P90Xer, Nick. Nick introduced me to Tony and the fellas down at the beach. I then provided to get the workout of my life. When I came home I slept for 3 hours. It’s an upper body killer. Since then, I have been a regular down at the beach workout. Driving 40 mins or so just to get a chance to do this workout. It’s a fun day to say the least.

Many of you have been wondering what type of exercises we do at Tony’s Beach workout so I decided to take the camera with me and film some of the moves. I had to leave early this day so I didn’t get to film it all but the video below gives you a pretty good idea of what we do. It consists of 5 rounds of 4 exercises. The exercises rotate from Back to Triceps, to Shoulders, to Chest. Each move is as challenging as the next. We even throw in a mini AB Ripper into the mix as well.

Things do get a little competitive but it’s all in good fun. Some are just there to get some exercise so they modify what they can’t do, the others try for reps, and some are try for perfect form. I am kinda a rep myself, but lately I have been wanting to perfect my form as much as possible. Each of us have our strengths and weaknesses. As you will see from the video my weakness are the Hand Stand Push ups. Those things are a killer. I also currently struggle with Hand stands in general so I am constantly working on those. My favorite moves are mostly the pull up and dip stuff. I love muscle ups and the 3 Pole Climb as well.

Here is the video…I hope you enjoy it!

Pullups are considered to be one of the best exercises in all of fitness…and it’s for good reason. They work almost every major upper body muscle group and are a great test of strength. If you have done P90X then you know that pullups are a big part of the program. The problem is that most people can’t do them when they first start, or struggle to only get only a couple. This leads to the belief that they will never be able to master the pullup. When I first started P90X I could only muster a couple of pullups during each exercise. As I continued to do P90X my pullup strength increased as well as my rep count. Now I am able to do well over 20+ on most pullup variations.

So how do you increase your pullup strength? Below are a few easy tips to think about when going through P90X, Asylum, P90X2 or any other fitness program. Pullups are one of my favorite exercises, and easily my favorite back exercise. If you want to get stronger, have those ripped lats and back then use these tips below.

How To Improve Pullups

1. Don’t Avoid Them! I can’t tell you how many times I hear people say that they can’t do pullups so they don’t do them at all. You only get good at things you do often. You can’t expect to go play a sport without practice…the same goes for pullups. Some people also think that you can use a lat pull down machine instead as well. But again, you can only progress so far that way. In order to get better at pullups you must practice. Even if it means only doing a couple. Each time you do them you will improve a little bit. Make it a goal to try to do 1 more pullup than last time.

For the advanced: Every time you walk past your pullup bar during the day try to do as many as you can. This allows you to do more than just your max. For example, if you can do 8 pullups then try to do 6-7 each time you walk by your bar. If you do this 5x during that day then you have done 30-35 extra pullups!

But what if you can’t do any? Well try your best and forget the rest. “Don’t say you can’t, say I presently struggle with”, and move onto number 2.

2. Do Assisted Pullups! There is a great new tool in the P90X arsenal that you can use to increase your pullups that is MUCH better than a chair. The Chin Up Max Band Assist! I have been talking about this thing a lot lately and it’s for good reason. I was first introduced to it during the rehearsals for P90X2. I was amazed how well it worked, and how simple of a concept it was. The Chin Up Max is a resistance band that is only made to help you with pull ups. It has a hook on one end and a food stirrup on the other. All you have to do is hook it on your pull up bar, put your foot into the stirrup and pull away! The beauty about this thing is it forces you to use good form and engages all the correct muscle groups, assisting your pullups enough to where you are still gaining strength. I like this better than the chair because with the chair you tend to use your legs way to much to assist. The Chin Up Max is a great tool for anyone who wants to get more pullup reps.

For the advanced: I have been using it to do some pullup drop sets. So I go for my max on my pullup reps without any assistance, and I then use the Chin Up Max to help get another few reps. This has helped me use proper form and really get the most out of my pullup endurance without having to kip and lose my tempo.

3. Use Proper Form and Tempo! As I have gone through my P90X journey these last couple years I have found that form is king and tempo is queen. You need to use proper form and tempo to get the most out of all body weight exercises. Pullups are no exception. The the longest time I thought that adding weight was number one when in actuality I was hindering my pullup strength by not following the number one rule, to use good form. I started upping my weight via a weighted vest and my ego got in the way. I wanted my rep count to go up so I started to kip more and more. It wasn’t until this last round of P90X that I decided to drop the weighted vest completely and take my ego out of it. I used perfect form on each pullup exercise and my reps dropped significantly. As I continued to use proper form and controlled tempo, my reps started to increase and so did my strength. I was able to break through plateaus at the beach workout because of this key element.

Proper Form and Tempo: Proper from is going all the way down so your using full range of motion and all the way up so your chin is over the bar. Don’t sell yourself short here. I see a ton of guys only going half way down and going back up. Full range of motion is key. Your tempo should be a explosive movement to get your chin over the bar, pause for a split second at the top then a controlled “2 count” on the way back down. That is 1 rep. Do this and watch your pullup strength improve over time! Here is a video taken of me at the beach workout with Tony Horton and crew, during our warm up round for a reference.

4. Add Variation! This is what is great about P90X and P90X2. Your not just doing pullups and chin ups. Your doing switch grip pullups and closed grip pullups, corn cobs and towel pullups. Adding variation is crucial. P90X2 takes this to a whole new level. You will see some awesome pullup variations that aren’t in P90X. Again, you have to use good form. You can’t do these moves sloppy…if you can’t do them with good form then go to tip number 2 and buy the Chin Up Max so you can! Below is a pic of me doing a Lever Pull Up.

5. If you follow 1-4 then you can now Add Weight! This is for the advanced fitness guru who wants to continue to break plateaus. Adding weight is great for any body weight exercise. You can do this very easily with a weighted vest or by holding a medicine ball between your legs. The one thing you MUST do is use proper form and tempo. My biggest mistake was not following proper form when I added weight. I started Kipping way to much to get more reps. This forced me to plateau. If you can follow tips 1-4 then you can add weight and continue to get strong!

Noting the obvious, Chest X 2.0 is a second version of a chest routine that I have been doing lately. If you are wondering what this is and how I got it, then this post is for you.

What is Chest X 2.0?

Chest X 2.0 is a routine that I have formulated myself after researching different ways to build a stronger, more defined upper body. I started doing the first version of it after my 2nd round of P90X. It involves a more traditional approach, using the bench press, smith machine, incline bench and cable fly machine that can be found at any gym. I found that as I progressed with my fitness with P90X, I wanted to be able to do a routine that would be a great addition to my typical P90X schedule. I found that hitting my upper body with more of a traditional, heavy weight workout did the trick. This is a great addition to P90Xs push ups and even P90X2s stability push up moves. “It’s about the confusion baby”(Tony Horton).

This routine is for the more advanced. I recommend it to those who have done their full 90 days of P90X. It is focused primarily on the chest with some tricep and shoulder work as well. It hit’s the chest in almost every angle and incorporates drop sets to help with hypertrophy.

This routine can also be modified if you have an adjustable bench and some dumbbells at home.

When do you do it? How does it fit into the schedule?

I do Chest X 2.0 instead of Kenpo in my P90X schedule. The reason is because I didn’t need more cardio in my routine anymore because I am at a low enough body fat % that I am happy with. I also run (2-3 miles) on my Yoga day. I found that adding 1 more resistance routine was a great way to gain some more mass and keep my strength increasing. I typically advise the people I coach to use the kenpo day as “Miscellaneous” day, if you will. That way you can do what ever you want so you can keep things fun, fresh and keep yourself motivated to try new things. For me this is typically Chest X 2.0 because it’s a routine that I enjoy doing.
