I have never been able to do any pull ups on my own even when I was at basic training with the army. Should I first work to be able to do pull ups on my own before I do P90X?

  2. Coach Sean says:

@Stephen: You actually don’t have to. P90X shows you how to modify by using a chair in order to do them. You can also practice by doing Negative Pull ups. That is when you use a chair or jump up so you have you chin above the bar and then you lower yourself as slowly as possible, only using your body weight…no chair. Either way you can definitely still do the program.

  3. David says:

Hey, i was wondering if you used anything else besides the whey protien and the recovery formula they want you to take. Just so i can compare, what was your weight and your height when you first started, and did you workout before the program a lot. I am 6ft and 160lbs. My bench is around 195-200. I am not wanting to lose weight, but i want to get really ripped and gain muscle mass. Does p90x do that or does in just get you ripped. By the way i have a really fast metablolism and was wondering if i should follow the diet exactly. Did you follow it to a tee or not. I want to get results like you , you did a great job man.

    Thanks

@David: Beyond the whey protein and recovery drink I used the P90X multivitamins and Omega 3s. I have since added Shakeology instead of the multis and some creatine here and there. Nutrition is the key though. You need to commit yourself to the nutrition plan 100% first. You can definitely use P90X to gain mass but it is not a traditional Mass Gaining program. It is a fitness program deisgned to get you in the best overall shape. The key for you is going to be eating enough calories and lifting heavy enough weight. If you do both then you will gain mass. Check out my “Gaining Mass with P90X” topic. I followed the nutrition plan 100%. I ended up adding more calories as I needed it though. 5. Paul says:

Hey, Ive been doing p90x for awhile now but it always just seems like i have the lower back fat kinda love handles that just wont go away any tips? and also do you know like anything about body fortress creatine, because my friend gave me some but i dont know how it will affect me or how it will work.
    Thanks Man!

  6. Coach Sean says:

@Paul: The best tip I can give you is to look at your nutrition very closely. Are you following the guide? Are you hitting the recommended calories and ratios? Are you having cheat meals alot? Most of the time the problem lies with nutrition. If your looking to lose more body fat then you don’t need to take creatine. Contact me and I can help you further!

  7. Jordan says:

Is it ok to just do portion control on food instead of following the nutrition guide? I have no problems with staying away from processed, fast and junk food. I hate counting calories.

  8. Coach Sean says:

@Jordan: Of course. As long as your eating good clean whole foods, I see no problem with that. I would definitely make sure you are eating the right Proteins/Carbs/Fats however. Also make sure your getting at least 1 gram of protein per your body desired body weight. Hope that helps!

  9. Andrew says:

    Hi Sean,
I realized you went up in weight and put on a good amount of muscle while keeping fat gains to a minimum, which confused me because I always thought you were supposed to bulk up and then cut down.

I actually weigh 150lbs, like you before p90x and would like to get a similar body and look bigger but also lean.

While doing p90x, I feel like I’m going to end up looking smaller, and want to know how you combined nutrition and the program to gain muscle

  10. Coach Sean says:

@Andrew: Yes, typically it is extremely hard to do both at the same time. The thing I give credit too was the diet aspect. When I started P90X I new I had to push myself during the workouts, and I had the proper amount of weights that I could use so that wasn’t the problem. The difference was that I fed my body correctly in order to promote muscle growth while at the same time shredding fat. If you look at my diet you will see that I eat really clean through the full 90 days. No cheating at all. 11. Shaan says:

Hey mate, I am eating 2,500 calories a day, and currently on phase 2 of P90X.. I was wondering, the 2,500 calories I am required to eat, does this include minus the calories lost during the workout, or do I ignore that? Cheers.

  12. Coach Sean says:

@Shaan: You can ignore that. The nutrition guide takes that into account. Typically for phase 2 of the diet you should be at around 2400 calories/day with ratios of Protein/Carbs/Fat around 40/40/20 % of your calories. Does that make sense?

  13. kyle says:

    Hi,

I’m doing the P90X meal plan and I’m doing phase 2 now, it calls for a 1 cup of oats. My question is that before cooking or after cooking? Thanks

  14. Coach Sean says:

    Cooked Oats
