What is P90X? P90X is an extreme 90 day home fitness program created by famous fitness trainer Tony Horton.
While Driving to the gym, frustrated by the traffic, watching my fuel deplete before my eyes, P90X looms in my mind. Those infomercials have me intrigued. So I start to think of all the reasons why I do what I do. By “do” I mean drive the 10 miles to the gym, fight post work crowd, wait 15 mins for a bench to open, get interrupted by others asking “mind if I get a set in”, while continuing to not get the results I am after. And I am paying for this “privilege”? Still not convincing myself I turn to the only argument I can think of…”P90X can’t work, its an infomercial. I can’t get ripped at home”. Right?….WRONG! P90X is the real deal.
P90X comes with 12 workout dvds, 1 instructional dvd, a fitness guide and a great nutritional guide. The fitness guides 100 pages consists of instructions for each exercise in the program. Something that I was surprised about. The nutrition guide explains exactly how, what and when your suppose to eat. Just like the workout program, it consists of 3 different phases based on what your goals are. You can tell that P90X goes to great lengths to educate the program user. It’s approach isn’t that of a normal diet program. It’s about creating eating/fitness habits that you can take and use for the rest of your life. Nutrition is they key to success. I followed it to a “T” and I would suggest anyone doing the program do the same.
As soon as you push play you will discover that these workouts are for real. Chest/Back (now my favorite) was a killer. It is the best push/pull workout I have ever done. Ab Ripper X, a monster ab routine, practically guarantees results. Every workout is maximized to help you take your fitness to the next level. There are some brutal workouts here. The first week you will be extremely sore. Rest assured that every beginner starts that way. I quickly discovered why Tony Horton‘s and all P90Xer’s creed is “Bring it”, because that is exactly what you have to do.
The whole program is based on muscle confusion. This style of workouts accelerate the results process by constantly introducing new moves and routines so your body never plateaus, and you never get bored! Whether you want to get lean, bulk up, or just plain get ripped, there’s an endless variety of ways to mix and match the routines to keep you motivated the full 90 days and beyond. Each phase consists of a new schedule to help confuse your muscles and shock them to grow. The greatest part about this program is it finds your weaknesses and strengthens them. All you will need is a pull up bar and a set of dumbbells or resistance bands!
If you make it the full 90 days and follow the nutrition guide, you will be in the best all around shape of your life. P90X has truly changed the way I think about my health/fitness. Tony Horton has created an unbelievable program. Buying P90X was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself.
