Obesity in America

There is a very alarming trend happening right now in America and it’s causing so many problems on both a national and local level that it is staggering.  Obesity is a rising trend in this country that has been happening since the 70s.  Each year more and more people become obese.  Our addiction with low cost, low quality food is ridiculous.  We have become a fat nation who are hell bent on getting what we want when we want it.  We are an instant gratification nation that is now becoming lazy and overly dependent and the “easy fix”.

The other day, Tony Horton posted a video showing the ricing percentage of people in America who are now obese.  Did you know that we are pushing the 33% mark now?  1 out of every 3 people are now obese?  Are you kidding me?  See the video for yourself below.

Probably the most startling thing of all is this is all going on during the health craze in the 70′s, the Jane Fonda/Jazzercise phase in the 80′s, and the extreme diets in the 90′s. America is obsessed with getting in shape. So what happened? Why is our country still getting more and more fat?

Like I said above, we are a nation of “I want it now”. We are all guilty of this. Email, Instant messaging, fast food, vending machines, On-Demand Movies, Information at our finger tips. So we have taken that same concept and applied it to our health. Instead of trying to make a lifestyle change with our diet and exercise we have tried to find ways to find that lightening in a bottle. We look for Pills and potions we can take to make us lose weight without doing anything. We all laugh at the “Ab machines” and “Shake weights” but there are reasons why these things exist…people buy them! Joe Shmoe would rather sit on the coach watching TV, eating fast food, with a machine on his abs that is sending electric pulses into his body than he would getting outside and taking a walk. This is also what we are teaching our kids. I get emails from more and more teenagers that get frustrated after 1-2 week(s) of P90X because they aren’t seeing results. They haven’t learned what it’s like to be patient and to commit to something. 90 days is not a long time. In 90 days you can change your life with a program like P90X or Insanity.

As a country we need to change our mindset. We need to change our lifestyle and start taking what we put into our bodies more seriously. We need to take time away from the TV and put it toward exercise. Don’t have an hour to do P90X? Then do 10 min Trainer! We all have 10 mins/day. Making this change will improve you life! I think we have forgotten that. Those who have seen results from Beachbody programs can tell you that. Eating well makes you feel good, eating junk doesn’t.

Good health and fitness is a lifestyle change, not a 2 week crash diet. It’s something that will make your life better. It is something that will make our nations better. We need to end this trend of obesity…it begins with YOU. Make the choice today. Commit to a program like P90X, Insanity, TurboFire or any Beachbody program for that matter. You don’t even have to go anywhere, you can do it from home. Follow the nutrition plan. Make healthy eating choices. Drink Shakeology if you have problems getting healthy foods into your diet. Make the change today!

Obesity is not only causing major problems with our Health Care system but it is literally killing our friends and family. Did you know that if 1% of Americas made a lifestyle change and kept that the rest of their lives that we wouldn’t have a health care crisis? This is why I became a Beachbody Coach and this is why I am trying to help others get results using these programs. They work and they will change your lives in ways you can’t even imagine. It has for me and the hundreds of others I have coached. It can for you too. Make the choice right now to decide to do a fitness program. Commit to it 90 days. Watch yourself Succeed. Help others to do the same and you will help end this trend of Obesity.
